Instructions for On-Line Registration

Create a unique username and password for every player [Write them down in case you want to make changes at a later time].
You MUST use the username and password from the state tournaments. You are not allowed to create a new username and password for the same player.
Answer all questions on the next two pages.
After submitting your answers, print the third page and send it with correct payment to Pinon Chess Club, c/o Jeff Goettee, 57 Valle Vista, Los Alamos, NM 87544 via regular mail.
After allowing for the mail and processing time, you can verify your entry by visiting this web site.
Coaches have a special page allowing them to review/change entries of their players. Contact Jeff Goettee to set up a username and password and get the web address.

Tournament Announcement

February 2. LOS ALAMOS COUNTY SCHOLASTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Pinon Elementary School, Los Alamos. Seven sections:

Championship open to all players in grades 12 and below; Lower rated players may me moved to Reserve Section if the section becomes too large.
Reserve open to all players in grades 12 and below with USCF ratings below 1100 or unrated;
Novice open to players in grades 9 and below with USCF ratings below 850 or unrated;
Cadet open to players in grades 6 and below with USCF ratings below 700 or unrated;
Booster open to players in grades 4 and below with USCF ratings below 500 or unrated;
Midget open to players in grades 2 and below with USCF ratings below 300 or unrated;
Coaches/Parents for "grownups" - get dad or mom to play! (Ask about special tournament USCF membership).

Reserve, Novice, Cadet & Booster 5 rounds, Coaches/Parents 3 rounds and Midget 5 rounds, paired as fast as possible (midget mini-tournament for those who want to play more games). Time control is Championship and Reserve (G/45) rounds 1 and 2, (G/60) rounds 3 and 4; Novice (G/35), Cadet (G/35), Booster (G/35), Midget (G/30), and Coaches/Parents (G/60). All games will be finished by 4:30 pm. Timing is the same as the 2007 Veteran's Day.

Top 5 finishers in all Scholastic sections will receive trophies and there will be honorable mention trophies too! Cash prizes to the top finishers in the Coaches/Parents section. Check-in 8-8:45 am.; All sections Swiss System, first round at 9am (Chapmipionship/Reserve/Coaches/Parents/ is 8:50), others as rapidly as results allow, with a possible 30-minute lunch break.

Breakfast and lunch concession starting at 8:00 am. All games will be finished by 4:30 pm. Bring sets and boards, and particularly clocks! Entry fees: $12 if received by 1/23, $15 if received by 1/31, and $20 thereafter. This is a United States Chess Federation rated event. Membership in the USCF is required. Midgets may play as "Junior Tournament Players" (JTP) a special free USCF category. For other than JTP, $12 of the entry fee is waived for players joining the USCF for the first time. This means that if you sign up by 1/23 the tournament is free! Players may request half-point byes by advance arrangement. Note that this is an individual event - no team prizes, and pairing of teammates may occur.

Directions to Pinon Elementary School, 90 Grand Canyon, Los Alamos:

Pinon Elementary is located at 90 Grand Canyon in the White Rock section of Los Alamos. If heading west along NM 502 into the county, take the ramp to NM 4, toward White Rock. Once in White Rock look for Smith's Grocery and turn left onto Sherwood Blvd. Turn right onto Grand Canyon. Begin to ascend the hill and turn right into the parking lot in front of the school. If coming from the Jemez along NM 4, turn right onto Grand Canyon at the traffic light. Go 0.6 miles and turn into the parking lot on the left as you descend the hill.
